GTS frequently provides technical assistance to other computer professionals and users by participation in various technical forums and news groups. This technical tips and download page addresses several common questions which come up frequently and to provide a source for downloading helpful files or information. It will be expanded in the near future.

Network Share Mapping for Windows XP and Vista

 EasyMap Batch Files

EasyMap is particularly useful for the following situations:

 

-  Windows XP Home and Vista Home versions do not automatically restore network connections. You must enter a user name and password for each share (shared folders and printers) every time you restart your computer and try to access a shared resource. This can be automated with EasyMap.

 

-  Quickly connect to shares over a VPN (remote network) connection.

 

-  Multiple Networks::  For example, your laptop is used on a network in the workplace (e.g. XP Pro on a domain) and you want to also use it on your home network and easily connect to shared resources.

 

There are two versions of EasyMap included. EasyMap-Insecure is for hard coding your username and password if security is not a concern (for a home network typically).

EasyMap-Secure will prompt for a username and password but entering once will apply to multiple shares.

 

EasyMap can be placed in the Windows  Start folder to run automatically (in most cases), or can be run manually.

Microsoft Knowledge Base Query Utility

Quick access by article number

The Microsoft Knowledge base is a valuable source of information for troubleshooting problems in Windows and other Microsoft products. Each article has a six digit number as well as a title. Frequently you will see references to a particular article number in support forums or newsgroups, within one article referencing others, or from support staff and vendors. The KB query tool is a small  program created by GTS that lets you easily and quickly open a particular article by article number in your web browser.

Malware Information and Tools Guides

GTS frequently repairs systems damaged by malware infections. We have written two documents to help our clients cope with this problem. One provides general information about malware including important tips on prevention. The other is a quick reference guide for using the malware tools we routinely install.
